"Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand," a glimpse into real social problems.
The pursuit of social justice has been a part of mankind's history across the ages, especially in literature – from Shakespeare to Harry Potter. Author Jessica D'Agostini's new book, Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand, brings this powerful theme to middle-grade and YA readers in this moving and action-filled novel. D’Agostini presents a world in turmoil, giving young readers an interesting glimpse of real social issues.
Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand begins in a world where magic is feared. Princess Martina must be careful and conceal her magical talents—especially when her spiteful brother acts like a complete stranger. She finds a true friend in the peasant boy Enzo, and her secret seems safe. But when tragedy strikes the royal palace, Martina’s careful world is torn to pieces. If only brother and sister can work together, the collapsing kingdom might be saved from war and famine, vicious ralthors, and a tyrant king. But Prince Drago has secrets of his own, and a heart of wickedness that no amount of good magic can brighten.
Dark days cloud Brightalia, and only one last hope remains before total devastation. Can Martina and her friend defeat the evil that lurks throughout their land? Or are the days of their beloved kingdom over forever? Only one thing is certain—time is running out…
Jessica D’Agostini’s Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand is a thrilling adventure that not only entertains young readers with action, magic, and a dose of danger, but also adds a lovely spin of wonderful life lessons about family values, courage, and social justice that will leave readers of any age with a spark in their hearts to reflect upon.

With their fantasy stories and enchanted castles, the Venezuelan writer Jessica D'Agostini aims to bring valuable lessons to the education of children.
MIAMI - Through the teaching of her mother, Venezuelan writer Jessica D'Agostini learned the power of literature, which today aims to convey to the little ones with her book Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand, an exciting adventure that focuses on real social problems.
"The birth of my daughter took me back to the world of fantasies, castles and princesses. All that magic that she brought to my life gave me the inspiration to write my first novel, " said the author.
More than an exercise to the memory, writing has become a way to connect with the younger audience and convey emotions.
"It has several beautiful messages, and one of them is that readers feel identified with the lessons of life, such as courage, social justice and family values, which appear in history," she said.
With regards to the plot of the story, D’Agostini said that she had a vision totally different from the traditional ones.
"It is a different and atypical princess who has to fight to overcome her fears, face a tyrant king and take on the risky mission to save her kingdom. She is the true heroine of the story, " she explained.
With courageous characters, the author aims to be a source of motivation for children and inspire them to believe in their dreams.
"I want to let children know that they should never give up on pursuing their goals. And I believe that, through reading, they will be able to get closer to their dreams," she said.
Something that she considers of vital importance is to instill in them love and respect for literature, an exercise that will undoubtedly make them discover different worlds and contribute to their education.
"One of the great benefits of reading is that children can learn values, develop their critical sense and learn to know the consequences of their actions," she said.
Her Vision
After launching her book, the Venezuelan writer shares some tips that could be useful for those interested in stories.
"Practice and practice. It is undoubtedly a path to perfection, especially in this field where I think there is much to learn. You always have to find a way to attract the reader and make the characters memorable," she said.
Regarding the process of writing the story, the author confessed that it was a very productive stage in her life.
"I got so involved in my world that I was practically disconnected from everything around me, and I dreamed of seeing my characters. And although the book is for children eight years and up and does not need many illustrations, at the end of the book you can see the drawings of all the main characters," she explained.
Jessica D'Agostini will present Magical Eyes: Dawn of the Sand on May 6 at 4 p.m., at Books & Books, Coral Gables.
